Story of the Book: The Farmer’s Lawyer
with Sarah Vogel, Leigh Stein, & Mackenzie Brady Watson | Oct. 28, 2021, 7pm(CT)
In 1983, Sarah Vogel filed a class action lawsuit in the state of North Dakota on behalf of 8,400 family farmers at risk of foreclosure during the height of the farm crisis. The lawsuit would ultimately include 240,000 family farmers nationwide, as Sarah waged a David and Goliath battle against the federal government, as a young lawyer and single mother. But most of the historic lessons from this story would have been lost if Sarah hadn’t found her way to writing a memoir about her landmark case. Join Sarah, her literary agent Mackenzie Brady Watson, and her book coach Leigh Stein, as they share the incredible story behind The Farmer’s Lawyer, including Sarah’s years-long adventure of going through archival material, her experience writing a book proposal and finally writing a memoir about the 1980s that resonates with readers today.
Co-presented by Magers & Quinn bookseller, hosting Sarah’s book launch in store on November 2.
